Asia, a continent of opposites, stranges and neon lights. The photo series „Behind glass, neon signs and surgical masks” would like to show just nine of Milions of situations. Without claiming to tell the stories of their protagonists or situations until the end. No top-class photography, just the moment is important. On my regular trips to Asia I searched for typical situations and peoples. Situations like the scene on a gas station in the night time in Saigon where people come together to refuel there motor bikes. Always a balance of real and unrealness. But mostly just the naked truth. A guy is waiting of a cab and a life-sized carboard stand-up women is wobble in the wind! A seamstress in a sewing company having night shift. The cult to be different than the others and scenes behind the scene. Repeated constantly - impossible to tell all storys.
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This picture show us a seamstress in a big sewing company having night shift. She always wears a surgical masks to protect remaining colleagues from infection. Most people are unable to stay home when they are ill. I liked the concentrated work of the woman and the focusing light on the sewing machine. The green work clothes pop up very well.
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In this picture you can see a typical situation on a gas station in the night time. Nearly three o´clock in the morning some people come together to refuel there motor bikes and to have a little talk. The fascinating things about this picture are the many colorful bright lights and the random lightning in the background. The constant movement, even at night, made me take a picture here.
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This shoot shows a visibly proud machine Operator. I liked the expression in his face and the enthusiasm for his machine. Most Vietnamese are very proud People. Very amazing after her very early sad past.
Chinatown Kuala Kumpur, Malaysia. This image shows an interior view of a souvenir shop photographed while passing by. I liked the many little colorful suveniers and the blur of the light. It showes very aptly the overproduction of plastic products and the fusion of Tradition.
Fake or real? This Picture is about the blurring of real and unreal. A street situation in the rainy season. A guy is waiting of a cab and the life-sized cardboard stand-up women is wobble in the wind! Or it´s the other way round? I took this picture when I waited for a taxi in heavy rain. I loved the tranquility and the many reflections of the neon signs.
Hong Kong, China. This picture shows a backyard at night. It´s a back view of a hostel in downtown. Many air conditioners on a small space suggest that they are conditioning very narrow rooms. I liked the graffities and the light of the street lamp on this Scene.
Tokyo, Japan. Man vs. Toys. I just liked the situation of the cooking men and the reflection of toys of the neigborhood shop on the window.
Hong Kong. The cult to be different than the others is the topic of this picture. This scene I photographed on a street Shooting. A scene behind the scene. Young women dressed even younger and a photographer takes action shots. I liked the scene because it describes the youth in Hong Kong very well. Always different, always in motion and technically always ahead of their time.
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. A look through the taxi window at night. Bright neon lights framed by a dark window frame. I took the picture because I liked the contrast between the slightly dark, quiet taxi inside and the loud, colorful hurly-burly on the street. The mouthguard is a daily companion and protects the wearer and the fellow man for a contagion.
